Getting a job offer for a ski season is exciting — and it's tempting to say yes on the spot. But before you commit, there are a few things worth clarifying. A quick conversation with your employer now can save you a lot of headaches once you're actually on the mountain.
About the role
Start with the basics. Ask exactly what your day-to-day responsibilities will look like, what hours and shift patterns you can expect, and whether those hours are guaranteed or subject to change based on snow conditions and resort traffic. It's also worth asking who you'll be reporting to and how big the team is — knowing the structure helps you understand what you're walking into.
About pay and perks
Get clarity on your pay rate, how often you'll be paid, and whether there's overtime available. Then ask about staff perks — lift passes, gear discounts, food and beverage discounts, and lessons. These benefits vary significantly between resorts and can add serious value (or not) to your overall package. Don't assume — ask.
About accommodation
If on-mountain housing is available, ask whether it's included in your offer, how much it costs, and what it looks like — shared rooms, facilities, proximity to work. If accommodation isn't provided, ask whether the resort can point you toward options nearby. This is one of the most important questions you can ask, especially if you're moving somewhere you've never been before.
About the contract
How long is the contract, and what happens if the season ends early due to poor snow? Is there a minimum commitment period, and what are the terms if you need to leave early? Understanding the fine print before you sign protects you and sets clear expectations on both sides.
A good employer will welcome these questions — it shows you're serious and thinking ahead. If a resort is cagey about answering them, that tells you something too.
