The Kosciuszko Express chairlift accesses Australia's highest lifted point at 2,037m. Thredbo offers a vibrant village atmosphere year-round, with a strong focus on mountain biking and hiking in summer. Known for its après-ski culture and lively nightlife, it attracts seasonal workers looking for both great skiing and social life.

Mt Hotham

Australia's highest alpine village at 1,861m, Mt Hotham offers some of the most challenging terrain in the country and is unique in that you ski down from the village to the lifts. Located in the Victorian Alps, Hotham is known for its reliable snow at altitude, advanced terrain, and connection to Dinner Plain village. The resort is popular with Melbourne-based skiers (4.5 hr drive) and offers a more intimate, less commercialised experience than Perisher or Thredbo.

Charlotte's Pass

The highest village in Australia at 1,765m, located in Kosciuszko National Park. Charlotte's Pass is the smallest and most boutique of the four main NSW ski resorts — once snow falls, the road from Perisher closes and guests transfer in by snowcat. Quiet, family-friendly, with ski-in/ski-out access from every lodge. Closest town is Jindabyne, about 32km away via Kosciuszko Road.

Mt Buller

Australia

The most accessible major resort from Melbourne (about 3 hours by road), Mt Buller is Victoria's largest single-mountain ski area with 300 hectares of terrain across 80+ runs. The alpine village sits at 1,600m and has the highest lift capacity of any Australian resort. Popular with both day-trippers from Melbourne and full-season seasonal workers. Mansfield (45 min down the mountain) is the gateway town for off-mountain accommodation.
