About
A village at 1,530m at the gates of the Gran Paradiso national park, Italy's oldest. ⚠️ The alpine area is small — 8km of piste on 4 lifts — and that is not what Cogne is known for: it has one of the largest cross-country networks in the Alps across the Prato di Sant'Orso, and it is a major ice-climbing destination, with the Lillaz and Valnontey falls drawing climbers all winter. The seasonal work here follows that: hotels, rifugi and guiding rather than lift-served skiing. Aosta is about 30 minutes down the valley.

Working a season here
Practical guides for seasonal workers, with every figure counted from the listings open right now.
- Can you do two ski seasons in one year?Northern and southern winters barely overlap. The constraints are visas and the gap between them, not the calendar.
- What should you ask before accepting a ski season job? Most adverts leave out the things that decide whether a season works. Counted from live listings, and what to ask instead.
- Is a ski season worth it, and can you save money?Accommodation decides it more than the hourly rate. How to work out your own number rather than trusting anyone else's.
