About

Hokkaido powder resort about an hour from Sapporo and 30 minutes from Otaru, famed for an average annual snowfall of around 21m — among the highest in Japan. Two interconnected peaks (Asari and Nagamine) and 23 runs across 100+ hectares. Quieter than Niseko with an upmarket base village (Club Med Kiroro Peak and Yu Kiroro). Owner-operator: PCP Kiroro.

Working Holiday Visa is the most common route for under-30s — Japan has agreements with Australia, NZ, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Korea, and many others. Specialist roles (instructors, senior chefs) may be sponsored on Specialist in Humanities work visas. Club Med often sponsors international hires directly.
Recruitment Timeline
Major employers (Club Med, Kiroro Resort) start hiring in July–August for the December opening. Instructor positions through ski schools fill September–October. Late hires possible in November but accommodation gets scarce.

Public Transport

Après & Nightlife
Quieter than Niseko. Most après happens inside the Club Med and Kiroro hotel bars (lobby bar, Mountain Side Bar). Some staff trips to Niseko (1 hr) for bigger nightlife. The Otaru side road has small izakayas and ramen shops.
Healthcare
Otaru General Hospital (30 min). Sapporo for major care (1 hr). On-mountain first-aid clinic during operating hours. Pharmacy in Otaru.
Shops & Services
Limited at the resort itself. Otaru (30 min) for supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, and restaurants. Sapporo (1 hr) for major shopping (department stores, electronics, international food).
International Community
Medium — strong Australian, British, and French staff presence (especially through Club Med). Smaller and quieter international scene than Niseko but tight-knit. Working English is widely used among staff.
