Resorts in Southern Alps

The Remarkables

New Zealand

Iconic Queenstown ski area with 384 ha of terrain rising from Lake Wakatipu, set against the dramatic Remarkables mountain range. Known for the Shadow Basin freeride zone and an easy beginner area. About 45 minutes from Queenstown by road. NZ's adventure capital is at the foot of the mountain — bungee, jet boats, and skydiving alongside skiing.

Mt Hutt

New Zealand

Canterbury's premier ski field, consistently voted New Zealand's best ski resort by World Ski Awards. Operated by NZSki, Mt Hutt sits on the eastern edge of the Southern Alps offering incredible panoramic views across the Canterbury Plains to the Pacific Ocean. Known for its early opening (often the first resort in NZ to open) and reliable snow thanks to altitude and snowmaking. The base town of Methven is a charming rural Canterbury community. While the ski area itself is smaller than northern hemisphere resorts, the terrain is varied and the snow quality excellent.

Coronet Peak is famous for its Friday and Saturday night skiing operations under floodlights, with panoramic views over Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables. Operated by NZSki alongside The Remarkables and Mt Hutt, so most staff have multi-mountain access. Workers live in Queenstown rather than on-mountain.
